As a main contender for advertising and mass communication (focusing in on effective communication), companies and brands everywhere have experienced an influx in reach to their audiences thanks to a simple symbol.
Airbnb used hashtags to spread a simple message: that mankind is kind. Captain Morgan used #LikeACaptain to promote its line of rum and get an interactive, social response. Coca-Cola, known for spreading smiles, developed machines that required hugs as commerce and encouraged the idea of sharing.
